Compare and contrast

Feeling nostalgic and stuck inside with a cold (plus a stack of library books for entertainment), I was browsing my Flickr archive and realised it’s been just over a year since I started taking outfit photos. Back in the olden days of November 2009 I had to balance my boyfriend’s camera on a wonky kitchen stool and didn’t even do any image editing. Since then, I’ve learned a lot about HTML, Photoshop, pixels and posing. But there’s still more I want to learn, and I couldn’t call myself a ‘photographer’ without inwardly chortling.

I’ve also learned a lot about my personal style. This dress is nice and cute, I suppose, I don’t want to look nice or cute. It’s too girlish, and wearing it makes me wrinkle my face up into a Cher Lloyd expression and make a little Liz Lemon blerg noise.

Bonus anecdote: the ring on my middle finger? I found it on the floor of a gig at the Faversham in Leeds a few years ago. Yeah, I picked it off the grubby, beer-stained floor and I kept it. And I don’t care what you think. It was a good gig, featuring Foals, The Whip and These Monsters. But if it belongs to you, you can have it back.
